3.1 Diagnostic text books and atlases

Our recommendations:

Ruth Leventhal and Russell F. Cheadle (2002)

Medical Parasitology. A self-instructional text (5th edition)

ISBN 0803607881

F.A. Davis Co., Philadelphia

Excellent introduction to medical parasitology including diagnostic procedures for a reasonable price (under 50 US$).

Lawrence R. Ash & Thomas C. Orihel (2007)
Atlas of Human Parasitology  (5th edition)
ISBN 0891891676

American Society for Clinical Pathology, Chicago, U.S.A.

The quality of the photomicrographs is remarkable. The book is expensive (200 US$) but worth the price. It also summarizes diagnostic procedures and gives diagnostic keys.

Lynne S. Garcia (2006).

Diagnostic Medical Parasitology (5th edition)

ISBN: 1555813801

American Society for Microbiology, Washington DC, USA

This is the major reference book (1222 pages!) in this field, now in its fifth edition. It provides comprehensive, relevant diagnostic methods in one package. However, the quality of some illustrations (all only in black and white) is not fully satisfactory.

Lynne S. Garcia (1999)

Practical guide to diagnostic parasitology

ISBN 155581154X

American Society for Microbiology, Washington DC, USA

Designed as a training aid and rapid reference for laboratorians, this volume supplements the large standard textbooks in clinical parasitology, providing comprehensive information for practicing microbiologists, physicians, medical technologists, and students.
